Governor Kulongoski asked the Department of Consumer and Business Services
to form the Mortgage Lending Work Group to develop both short-term and long-term
solutions to concerns about the mortgage lending industry in Oregon. Concerns
include the rising number of foreclosures and the large number of subprime
borrowers with adjustable rate mortgages who may not be able to refinance
because banks have tightened their lending practices.
The Governor has asked that the group's work be guided by the following principles:
- Oregonians facing foreclosure should be armed with the facts.
- No Oregonian should be tricked into a refinance loan that does more harm
than good.
- No Oregonian should be victimized by fraudulent or unfair "mortgage
rescue" schemes.
- Mortgage loans should be designed for success, not failure.
The work group meetings are open to the public. To be notified of meetings
via e-mail or to receive more information, contact Kristen Miller at Kristen.I.Miller@state.or.us
or 503-947-7866.
